Your maternity unit’s list wins if it disagrees. See the [hospital bag guide](/guides/hospital-bag-uk).
Fit the car seat before you go in.

Verdict

Pack for a short stay: notes, ID, clothes for you, three baby sleepsuits, nappies, charger, snacks. Leave furniture at home. Tick against your own trust’s list if they publish one — that list outranks this page. Skip items your unit says they provide.

Not for: Not a birth plan and not a home-birth kit.

## What belongs in the bag, and what stays home?

Pack for two nights: notes, clothes for you, three baby sleepsuits, nappies, charger, snacks. Hospitals have cots.
Tick the boxes, print the page, and cross off anything your trust says they provide. Do not pack furniture.

For you - Maternity notes and ID
- Nightdress or button-up shirt
- Toiletries and any regular medicines
- Phone charger
- Snacks and a water bottle
- Going-home clothes for you
For baby - Nappies and unscented wipes
- Three sleepsuits (0–3 months)
- Muslins
- Hat
- Going-home outfit (one)
- Blanket for the walk to the car if cold
Leave at home - Moses basket
- Wipe warmer
- Extra teddies
- Five coming-home outfits
- Nursery furniture
