Do you need nappy cream in the hospital bag?

A small barrier tube is optional, not a first-month panic. NHS nappy-rash steps are change, clean, breathe, skip soap and talc. A pharmacist can recommend a cream if the rash is uncomfortable. Do not pack three brands. Do not treat a glass-test rash from a blog — that is urgent care, not Amazon.

What should you skip on nappy rash?

Skip talcum powder, antiseptics, soaps, baby lotion and bubble bath on the area. Skip tight nappies. Skip fragranced wipes. Skip a new cream every night without changing the routine. The NHS page is the protocol. Cream is not a licence to leave a wet nappy on.

Wash and lotion decisions sit on baby skincare. Wipes sit on baby wipes.

When is nappy cream not enough?

When the rash is very sore, spreading into folds with spots, not improving after a few days, or the baby is unwell. That is a pharmacist or GP. Bright red persistent rash can be thrush — we will not diagnose it from a listing. A glass-test rash that does not fade is not a cream problem.

If a rash does not fade under a glass, seek urgent medical help. That sentence is first-aid, not affiliate copy.

Is nappy cream a good newborn gift?
