Is this a week-by-week pregnancy tracker?

No. We will not tell you a fruit size, a symptom or a scan result. NHS Start for Life already does pregnancy week by week for free. This page answers when to spend money: research sleep and the car seat while you still have energy, then buy those two before the bag. Restock comes later.

What should you buy in the second trimester?

Almost nothing you cannot return. Use the time to read safer-sleep and, if you drive, the legal car-seat category. Sit in a chassis on a shop floor if you like. Do not panic-buy a travel system because a list said week 20. A themed nursery at this point is décor, not a baby.

Second trimester energy is useful for research, not for filling a loft. If a midwife has flagged an earlier arrival, bring the car-seat and sleep decisions forward — that is the exception, not a retail calendar. Second-hand cotton clothes can wait until you know a size. What must be in the house by about 36 weeks?

A firm flat sleep space in your room, a fitted child car seat if you drive, and a hospital bag packed for two nights. Nappies and a week of 0–3 month sleepsuits can be a small first set. You will learn sizes fast. A monitor, a walker and a matching knit set can wait or skip.

Fit the car seat in daylight, with the manual, before anyone is in labour. Pack notes, ID, three sleepsuits, nappies, charger and snacks. Hospitals have cots; do not put a Moses basket in the holdall. Use the hospital bag guide and the checklist tool. When should you buy a pushchair in the UK?

When you know how you will actually move: walk from the door, drive to a car park, or both. Newborns need lie-flat, not a sit-up buggy. A full travel system is optional if the infant carrier already clicks on a chassis you will use. Skip a second matching system for grandparents unless they will really push it.

A pram is not a week-24 trophy. If you live up stairs with no lift, the fold and the weight are the product. If you barely walk, a sling plus the car seat may cover the first weeks. Read pushchairs after the car seat is decided, not before. Second-hand chassis can be a saving; the seat on it is a stricter history — second-hand kit.

What kit waits until sitting, crawling or walking?

A high chair waits until they sit with little help. Proofing waits until they are mobile. A potty is not a first-year job. Swim nappies are for the pool, not overnight. Walkers stay a skip at every age. Buying the toddler aisle in pregnancy is how skip-list items arrive early.

How does money change the order?

It does not change the safety order. Child Benefit, grants and maternity pay are GOV.UK jobs; we do not invent rates. Once you know what will hit the bank, still buy sleep and the car seat before clothes and décor. The budget planner is bands and order of spend, not a live price list.
