Do you need swim nappies for a baby?
If you use a public UK pool, usually yes — check the pool. They catch solids. They are not leak-proof for urine. You still change them. A newborn who will not swim for months does not need a pack in the hospital bag. Lessons are a later spend.

Can a swim nappy replace a day nappy?
No. Different absorbency, different job. Put a day nappy back on after the pool. Rinse a reusable swim nappy. A changing bag still needs a spare everyday nappy. Do not treat swim pants as overnight kit at home at all.
Swim lessons do not replace bath safety: never leave a baby in water.
Is a swim nappy a good newborn gift?
Only if they already have a lesson booked. Otherwise it is a drawer. A voucher for the local pool after they have had jabs timing sorted is kinder — check current guidance with your unit, not this page, for when to swim.
We will not print a weeks-after-birth swim date as if it were eternal. Ask the pool and the GP or health visitor.
Do swim nappies make a baby safer in water?
No. They are hygiene for the pool, not a buoyancy aid. Supervision is the safety product. Armbands and seats are a teacher’s conversation, not a nappy feature. We will not rank flotation as if it came in the swim packet.
